This month's poll: Controversial issues

Please take our quick survey about research on controversial issues, and enter to win a $15 coffee card.

Last month's poll: Reference instruction

Recently we surveyed our customers about library instruction. The most common instruction session types were one-shot library instruction (87.5%), one-on-one instruction (83%), and general orientation (77%). Only about half are conducting FYE instruction, and only a few have a librarian embedded in a course or run a for-credit library class. 80% are instructing students about Credo Reference in their instruction sessions; some key Credo features discussed were the Mind Map, definitions, and biographical materials. For ideas on teaching Credo, see our Usage Toolbox or just respond to this email for personalized recommendations.

Don’t forget, every month we provide you with fun social media content your library can use to engage your followers and promote digital resources!

Credo Platform Refresh

The Credo platform is getting a refresh this summer! In July, we’re streamlining the search box options, revamping Topic Pages, and making a few more minor changes to the look and feel of the site. We are now offering COUNTER R5 compliant data in your Librarian Admin accountPlease note that these reports track newly captured data, and will not be available for months prior to April 2018. Instruction Tip of the Month: Incorporating Biographies into Pre-search

As we learned from Jodie Morin, library director at Buena Vista University, in her popular webinar The Four (or 5?) B’s: Preparing for the Research Process, accessing biographic information is an important component of pre-search. To better serve the content your users want, Credo is actively working to make data-driven content acquisitions. As part of this effort, we’ve added “Gale Biographies” to the Core Collections, containing more than 400 biographies strategically selected from Gale to offer in-depth coverage of the top-searched and most-requested people in the Credo database. Now you just have three (or 4?) B's to go!

Real-time Reference Spotlight: Police Body Cameras

One of the most contentious issues in law enforcement today is the use of police body cameras. Following several high-profile incidents of police violence, many have called for all officers to wear them. However, some groups are concerned about invasions of privacy and the increased exposure of witnesses and victims. See how both sides make their case in this ProCon.org article.
