This month's poll: Statewide/consortial resources

Last month: Retired titles

Last month we asked how your library responds to vendor title retirements. There was no universal action reported, but nearly half of respondents remove the retired records from their catalog and LibGuides. 28% take no action because the updates are automatic in their Discovery service. The process ranked about a 2 on a scale of 1 - 5, where 1 was “easy/quick." Credo anticipates some title retirements in December, and we removed one title this month from Academic Core with Backfile; please see the “New titles in your account” links below for more information.

The Credo Blog

This month FYE Correspondent Ray Pun profiled FYE activities at UCLA Library and wrote about Using Maps and GIS, Open Access and Library Instruction, Highlights from the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color, Indigenous Knowledge, and Supporting Information Literacy in the Humanities. Our latest Hidden Info Gems shares curated data-rich, open access reports from reliable sources.

Set your library instruction up for success with the Credo IL Strategy Handbook

This month’s IL Strategy Handbook section release walks you through everything you need to know about meeting your institution’s needs while still adhering to established information literacy standards. Author Henrietta Verma also shares tips and best practices for creating a dynamic, interactive curriculum across disciplines. The full handbook will come out next month, but you can sign up to receive preview chapter releases, including November’s upcoming section on continuous improvement through assessment!

New LibGuide: Fashion

As the weather turns cold, cozy up with our new LibGuide on fashion design content in Credo! We found great resources on pattern drafting terminology, fashion career outlooks, noteworthy designers, and more. It’s just one of over 50 subject-specific LibGuides available from Credo. If you have an idea for a new Credo LibGuide, let us know!

Instruction Tip of the Month: Increasing usage through social media

Your students already rely on your library’s social media for information about updated hours, special events, and funny book memes. Have you considered using it to promote valuable and interesting e-resources students might not otherwise encounter? For example, The DISCUS consortium used Biography in Context to celebrate Marie Curie, and Anderson University’s Thrift Library used a Credo Topic Page to invite students to learn more about horror films. On the Credo Blog you’ll find a fresh post every month with daily trivia, history, and humor you can use for inspiration or copy and paste into your account with ease!

Real Time Reference Spotlight: Poll positions
Real-time Reference is the featured search category that helps your users gather unbiased background information on the topics unfolding in the headlines.

The election is over, but the debate over the policies that motivated voters to the polls is only just beginning. ProCon Headlines has this informative article about the concept of  healthcare as a right, and The Conversation just posted this entry detailing how there is more to healthcare access than pre-existing conditions. If your users are interested in learning more about gerrymandering, this article explains how technology and court decisions have made it worse in recent years.
